How to Make Wax Tarts on Your Own? Here’s the Most Simple Way

There are many uses of wax tarts, one of which is to enhance the aroma of the house. These tarts can also be burnt in potpourri burners. Do you wonder, where does this candle get its name from? It gets its name from the tart pastry. Due to the shape of the wax tart, it resembles the pastry. Would it not be nice if we knew candle making, and make use of it? Once you know how to make tarts of wax, you will agree with me, when I say that it is, indeed, easy. The wax tarts can be made either using a wick or without a wick. If they are made without a wick, a special candle melter is used to melt the tart.
There is an advantage of making the wax tarts at home. You can make them in a wide variety of fragrances of your choice. Likewise is the case with the shapes and styles of the tarts. The size can be decided according to your needs and taste. You can make use of the old candle stubs to make the wax tarts. Richly scented candles also make for wonderful personalised gifts for friends and loved ones. Making wax tarts is one of the latest hobbies to have hit the market.
Making Scented Wax Tarts

As mentioned earlier, you can make use of the remnants of old wax candles to make the tarts. There are different potpourri fragrances available in the market. You can get yourself one of them to make the scented wax tarts. If you are not able to lay your hands on the potpourri fragrances, then you can make use of the fragrant oils to make the candle as well. They will give the same effect as that of the potpourri. Here is everything you require.

Material Required

  • Wax, that melts at low to medium point
  • Wax Colour
  • Fragrant Potpourri or Oil
  • Tart mould Method

The tart moulds come in different shapes. The most common shape is that of peanut butter cup. However, you can use heart-shaped, flower-shaped, fruit-shaped, or plain round moulds. Melt the wax to its melting point. When the temperature is a little higher than the melting point, add wax colour to the wax. Depending on the colour desires, you can vary the quantity of the colour used. At last, add the potpourri or oil to the wax. If you are using fragrances in oil format, then you will have to be careful, lest oil will seep out of the wax tart. If too much of oil is coming out, then polymer used in candle making can be used to bind oil and wax together. The quantity of the polymer used should not be more than ¼ teaspoon, lest it can cause shrinkage. Now that the wax is ready, pour it into the tart moulds. Put a wick in the tart at this stage, so that it gets stuck to the candle. When the tarts are hardened, you can remove them from the mould. If you find it difficult to remove the mould, place the mould in the freezer for a few minutes. The tart will be released. If you still find it difficult, then you can make use of release spray. Use tart whenever you want.

Making Soy Wax Tarts

Soy wax is natural wax that is made from soybean oil. The tarts made from soy wax are also known as wickless candles. They are safer than the traditional candles. Let’s see how to make soy wax candles.

Material Required

  • 1 lb Soy Wax Flakes
  • 2 oz Scent Oil
  • Candy Thermometer
  • Paper Baking Cups
  • Muffin Pan

Method
Use the paper baking cups to cover the muffin pan, so that removing the tarts will be easy, and it will also lend beautiful edge to the tarts. Fill the bottom pan of the double boiler with water and place it on stove. Pour the wax flakes into the upper pan of the double boiler, and place the pan on the bottom pan. Turn the heat to medium, and let the wax melt. When the wax melts, pour the scent oil into the wax, and stir, so that the scent oil is well distributed. When the wax reaches the temperature between 135 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit, remove the wax from the double boiler, and pour it into the molds. Put in the wick, so that it gets stuck to the tart. Let the wax settle overnight, before you remove it. Do not use the scented soy candles for at least 24 hours after they are made.

Now that you are well equipped to make wax tarts at home, you may practice till you find yourself conversant with the art. Rather than buying them from the market, your friends and neighbors may buy them from you. Or you can gift them homemade wax tarts.
