diy naturally-dyed table runner

The concept of natural dyeing is pretty simple: gather up some of nature’s brightest blooms, bundle them into your choice of fabric and steam for a good couple of hours. While we’ve dabbled in a bit of eco-dyeing before, this DIY table runner from Design Sponge takes things up a notch by incorporating food scraps into the mix. (Hoorah for putting waste to good use!) Crafter Jessica Marquez uses everything from avocado skins to carrot tops and coffee grounds to create her soft-hued table decor. Her advice? Get experimental with the ingredients – “Anything can be dyed!” Get started by checking out the tutorial here.
